Pleats

Pleats are a kind of blinds, however, they are not made of aluminum lamellae but of an artificial fibre and protects from sun. (Plissee, Sonnesnchutz) Pleats are available in most various colors and on a first glance appear as if they were made of paper. The special thing about pleats is that many systems can be closed from top to bottom as well as the other way around. Sales of pleats are increasing year by year. Some fabrics are treated with a so-called pearl reflection coating and reflect sunlight up to 70%. Furthermore, pleats are easy to demount and to clean.

Pleats fabrics

As already mentioned above pleats are not only made of paper but of artificial fibers as well which is very often produced of 100% polyester. In the meanwhile not only single-colored cloths are offered but also structured ones which for example contain the very popular crash optic and thus are a real eye-catcher. (Plissee) Some of these crashed pleats materials (soft creased optic) are equipped with reflective coating, the so-called “pearl reflection coating”. (Perlreflexbeschichtung) This reflects sunlight up to 25% more than a usual pleats cloth does and thus contributes to a comfortable room climate.

1. Light protection

Pleats can be purchased in three variations of different permeability to light. These three variations are called transparent, light-permeable and dimming.

  • Transparent pleats let a large amount of the light into the room whereas in the evening only little privacy protection is provided.(Sichtschutz)
  • Light-permeable pleats, however, only lets a small amount of light into the room. Theses pleats can create marvelous light effects and provide an optimal protection from dazzling.(Blendschutz)
  • Dimming pleats do not let any light into the room, it can neither be looked inside nor to the outside. 100% protection from light and dazzling is achieved which is a huge advantage when holding presentations.(Lichtschutz, Blendschutz)

2.Heat protection

Here as well can be distinguished between 3 different types (high, sufficient and low heat protection)

  • Pleats with a high heat protection are equipped with a reflective layer on the eoutside which reflects the light. This provides for little heat in the rooms in summer and an insulation against cold in winter. (Wärmeschutz, Kälteschutz) Furthermore this type also offers an additional protection from noise since the sound waves are softened.(Lärmschutz)
  • In contrast, pleats with a sufficient heat protection scatter the light which leads to a quick and even warming up of the things located within the room. (Wärmeschutz) Furthermore also only a part of the light is let into the room and sound waves are softened as well in order to guarantee a protection from noise.(Lärmschutz)
  • Pleats with a low heat protection do also scatter the light but less than the ones with a sufficient heat protection. An even heating-up of the things in the room is achieved as well. The protection from cold is not as good as the one which other pleats provide.

3. Pleats for moisture proof spaces

Pleats for moisture-proof spaces are especially well-suitable for bathrooms due to their water resistant fabrics. However, frequent ventilation is absolutely essential.(Feuchtraumplissee)

Cleaning

Whoever is fed up with the complex cleaning methods for aluminum blinds will love the cleaning possibilities for pleats since many of the cloths can be soaked in 30 degree warm water and afterwards simply be washed off.(Reinigung)
Afterwards the pleats are pressed together and hung up for drying in moisture and slightly piled condition. The slight piling of the cloth is important in order to prevent the pleats from smoothing and the system from losing its functionality and optic. By doing so, your pleats will look like new within a short time.
